Transport Committee Publishes Response To Report On Coastguards

The Parliamentary Information Office on the Parliamentary Yearbook is currently gathering press items for key features on habitat, energy and climatic change in the next edition.

Creating the Government Response to it is report on the Coastguard, Urgent situation Towing Vessels plus the Maritime Incident Resolution Group, the Haul Committee repeats it all concern about the minister's final choice to cut public loans for emergency tugs.

Chair's comments

Commenting on this particular response, Committee Desk chair Louise Ellman MP said,

"We recognized as on the Government for you to withdraw its recommendations for the future of the Coastguard System and to issue edited plans; it is constructive that Ministers have done for that reason.

n particular, it's reassuring that Ministers need accepted our main recommendation to reject any notion of aylight per hour?coastguard stations. I am gratified these revised projects ensure all excess stations will exercise on a 24 hour groundwork - able to provide swift and professional assistance to people concerning local coastlines and in nearest waters, whatever the time of day or night.

inisters also have accepted our problems about the potential damage to local knowledge among coastguard officers that would get occurred under the preliminary proposals. Nevertheless, it's going to important for the Government to indicate that the new policies properly address much of our concerns to manage operational effectiveness from key points when speedy information transfer is desirable in order to save lives.

testosterone levels is regrettable of which some coastguard stations might still close beneath these revised plans. We called in the Government to hold a second short period of meeting if it issued newer plans and I am joyful that this has been executed. I hope the Government will continue listening.

am very unsatisfied, however, that the Governing administration still intends not to ever renew the contract meant for emergency towing ships. These vessels shield our shores with pollution and we may not be convinced that suitable commercial alternatives exist.

imilarly, I will be very disappointed that Maritime Incident Answer Group, a partnership between the Government and even coastal fire providers to respond to incidents on the ocean which require fire-fighting, is absolutely not now being loaned. In my view, key skills and expertise could be lost and existence put at risk due to this short-sighted decision."
